In many sentences, adjectives are used to perform the purpose of nouns.
Adjectives Acting can be used with the article ‘the’. These expressions are plural. E.g.: the rich, the poor, the jobless, the unemployed, the deaf, the blind etc.
Likewise, verb forms that are used attributively in English are often called verbal adjectives. These are non-finite verb forms: participles, and sometimes to-infinitives. These act as verbs as they form a verb phrase, possibly taking objects and other dependents and modifiers that are similar to that of verbs. However, that verb phrase then plays the role of an attributive adjective in the larger sentence, hence the adjective can work/like a verb and vice versa.
Example:
- The parrot resting on the perch is mine.
- The Italian restaurant is a great place to eat.
