Complete and Incomplete Sentences

  • Look at the sentences and mark the difference. 
  • He a boy. 
  • Why crying? 
  • Why shy? 
  • It is a yacht. 
  • This is a park. 
  • The first 3 sentences do not show complete meaning. 
  • The last 2 sentences give the complete meaning. 

Complete Sentence: 

  • A complete sentence is a group of words that tells complete thought or idea. 
  • It begins with capital letter and ends with punctuation marks like ‘full stop’ and ‘question mark.’ 
  • A complete sentence answers the questions of ‘who’ and ‘what.’ 
  • Examples: 
  • The cat chased his tail. 
  • The dog ran away. 
  • The baby is crying. 

Incomplete Sentence: 

  • Ask the students, “Do you know what incomplete sentence is?” 
  • An incomplete sentence indicates an incomplete thought/meaning. 
  • Incomplete sentence doesn’t answer ‘who’ & ‘what’. 
  • Refer to slide no. 21 & 22. 
  • Examples: 
  • Won football game. 
  • Many long days. 
  • At the pool? 
  • This is how we can differentiate complete and incomplete sentences by looking at their formation.
