Parts of a Dictionary Entry: 

Headword: 

A headword is the word or term that starts a new entry in a dictionary. In other words, it’s the dictionary word you’re looking for. For example, consider the word bank

Pronunciation: 

This is broken down into syllables and informs you how to say the first word. The ( ‘ ) symbol indicates which syllable is stressed. Simply said, pronunciation is a special spelling that demonstrates how to pronounce the entry word aloud. 

Parts of Speech: 

Parts of speech tells us how to utilize the entering word in a sentence. In a dictionary, the parts of speech always appear abbreviated. 

Definition: 

This clarifies the entry word’s meaning. The definition is separated by numbers if there are many meanings. An example sentence is frequently used to clarify the concept. 

Translation: 

The meaning of the entry word in the target language is called translation. It can be in any language.
