What is a Preposition?
- The words that show the relationship between Noun or apronoun and some other word element in the rest of the sentence.
Prepositions tell us the position of Noun.
Example
( on, in, under, behind out)
- Pencil box is on the table.
- The book is in the bag.
- The mall is behind the Hospital.
- The mice is under the table.
Preposition is telling the position of the Noun.
There are three kinds of prepositions
- Prepositions of Time: in, on at etc.
- Preposition of Movement & Direction: in, on at, etc.
- Preposition of Position: on, in, under etc.
Prepositions of Time
Usage of “at” for the exact time on the clock.
For example: The Flight to Canada is due at 10 p.m.
We use on for days and dates.
For example: My Mom is coming on Monday. We’re having a party on the
Saturday .
We use In for Non specific times during a day, a month, a season, or a year.
When we don’t know the exact time.
For example: Monty likes to walk in the morning.
It is too hot in Summer.
Prepositions of Movement & Direction
To , from and into.
For example: To attempt an interview we go to Canada.
From…….to is used to refer to the beginning and end of an activity or event.
For example: The weather was windy from Monday to Wednesday.
Into is used to enter a building/ a room.
For example :
- Miss Douglas entered into the House.
