Key Concepts

  • 3 brand resistor
  • 4 brand resistor
  • 5 brand resistor

Introduction:

Electrical appliances are connected to the same voltage, but different current flows in the circuit. Different resistors are placed in the circuits, which offer different resistances to the flow of electrons. In this section, we are going to observe these different resistors and calculate their resistance.

Explanation:

Resistor:

A resistor has a band on it, which can be used to calculate its resistance. It can be three, four, five or six bands. Based on the bands on the resistor, its resistance can be calculated. This resistance of that resistor is fixed.

Its SI unit is Ohm.

Following is the table with color code of resistors.

GD: Make this in the form of a table with each color’s name as the row’s color.

parallel

Following is the table with the tolerance of resistors.

GD: Make this in the form of a table with each color’s name as the row’s color.

Calculation (in four band resistor):

First band is the first digit of resistance.

Second band is the second digit of resistance.

parallel

Third band represents the multiplier of resistance.

Fourth band represents the percentage of accuracy between the indicated value and the actual value.

4 band resistor
5 band resistor

Answer:

Answer 1 figure

Question 2:  Calculate the resistance, minimum resistance and maximum resistance of this resistor.

 Question 2 figure

Answer:

Resistance= 6.4 GΩ ±0.5%

Minimum resistance = 6.368 GΩ

Maximum resistance = 6.432 GΩ

Summary

  • Resistor has 3, 4,5 or 6 color band.
  • Color code:
  1. First band is the first digit
  2. Second band is the second digit
  3. Third band is the multiplier
  4. Fourth band is the tolerance.
  • Standard color associates each color with a specific decimal digit (0-9)

Electrical Components and Symbols Explained with Diagrams

What Are Electrical Components? Consider the electrical components as the building blocks of any circuit. These are the actual components that cause electricity to do what you want it to do. Every switch you flip, every fan that spins, every charger that doesn’t overheat relies on these small parts doing their job quietly. You rarely […]
