The Relation between multiplication and division:

Multiplication and division are closely related, given that division is the inverse operation of multiplication.
When we divide, we separate into equal groups, while multiplication involves joining equal groups.

  • If we have 6 x 8 = 48, its inverse relations (in the form of a division) will be the following:
    48 ÷ 6 = 8
  • If we have 7 x 9 =63, its inverse relations (in the form of a division) will be the following:
    63 ÷ 7 = 9

4.3.1 Multiplication facts to divide with 6

Example1:

Danish  has to put 30 flowers in 6 vases. How many flowers should Danish put in each vase?

Solution:

Find 30 ÷ 6

What times 6 equals 30.

5 x 6 = 30

Danish should put 5 flowers in each vase.

Example2:

 In the shop, shopkeeper arranged 42 toy cars in 6 rows. How many toy cars are arranged in each row?

Solution:

Find 42 ÷ 6

What times 6 equals 42.

7 x 6 = 42

In each row 7 cars arranged.

Example3:

Music teacher shared 36 drums equally among 6 children. How many drums does each boy get?

Solution:

Find 36 ÷ 6                                               

What times 6 equals 36.

6 x 6 = 36

Each boy gets 6 drums.

4.3.2 Multiplication facts to divide with 7

Example1:

Toby shared 35 carrots among 7 people in a park. How many carrots does each get?

Solution:

Find 35 ÷ 7

What times 7 equals 35.

5 x 7 = 35

Each member gets 7 carrots.

Another way:

Each person gets 7 carrots.

Example2:

Daniel arranged 56 pencils in 7 boxes. How many pencils he kept in each box?

Solution:

Find 56 ÷ 7

What times 7 equals 56.

8 x 7= 56

Each box contains 8 pencils.

  7. Write the quotient for following in the boxes.

9. A truck was carrying 28 chairs, stacked in sets of 7, to a function. How many stacks of chairs were there on the truck?

10. When 6 is multiplied by a number, the product is 54. Find the number.
